The quality and value of a diamond is appraised on the basis of its 4Cs – clarity, color, cut and carat. International Institute of Diamond gives the customer a clear picture about the 4Cs of a diamond.

Clarity of diamond is assessed on the basis of small imperfections found on the surface and inside the diamond. The imperfections or flaws on the surface are termed as blemishes, whereas the flaws inside it are termed as inclusions. These tiny, natural blemishes and inclusions may not be visible to an untrained eye.

The natural colored stones are grouped into two – precious stones and semi-precious stones. Their availability in nature decides the preciousness of the natural colored stones.

Natural precious stones are rare and hence have high value. Ruby, Blue Sapphire, Yellow Sapphire, Emerald and Cat’s Eye fall in the category of precious stones. Colored stones like Opal, Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli, Turquoise, Moon Stone, Garnet, Peridote and Aqua Marine are considered as natural semi-precious stones.
